The transformational Oyo State Model Education System Interventions (OYOMESI) Agenda, continues to take new heights and radical steps forward with the launch of the Teachers’ Continuing Professional Development Workshop which constitutes Strand 3 (Improving Teachers’ Competency and Motivation) of its agenda on Wednesday, July 5th, 2017.
The event took place at the Methodist Primary and Secondary School, Favos, Bodija, Ibadan.
The dynamic and amiable Special Adviser on Education to Oyo State Governor, Dr Bisi Akin-Alabi, launched the event, and in attendance at the workshop were, Alhaja Bolatito Adebisi (Senior Special Assistant on Education), Mr Adewuyi Adekola (Special Assistant on Education), OYOMESI Consortium Members and OYOMESI Project Officers.
The main objective of the session was to demonstrate ways to improve teachers’ competency in dealing with pupils’ behaviour and general control of the class. In her speech, Dr Bisi Akin-Alabi laid emphasis on behaviour management and how teachers should relate with the pupils in order for them to attain remarkable achievements. She also delivered the OYOMESI Prime Positive Role Model - His Excellency Senator Abiola Ajimobi’s message, which stated that he takes the welfare of Oyo State teachers as a priority and that he is so interested in taking Oyo State to the next level of becoming the country’s leader in terms of educational achievements.
Also there to speak on Behaviour Management of Pupils in the Class and Class Control, was Mr Olusoji Ajayi, a resource person for the workshop. He stated that the behaviour of pupils is a major concern to teachers, hence, behaviour management is paramount to understanding the potentials of pupils; achieving a safe and positive environment; understanding issues being faced by the pupils and reasons for misbehaviour by the pupils. He also gave the principles of management which explains ways in which teachers can achieve control of the class.
Leveraging on the cordial relationship the teachers have with the Special Adviser, the teachers aired their views about behaviour of pupils and tackling it.
Teachers, notably Mrs Atilola, Mrs Biliaminu and Mrs D.A Adedokun asked questions about the OYOMESI agenda; Education system in Oyo State and Issues being faced by the teachers,which were all given satisfactory response by the Special Adviser. The teachers expressed their delight in being the first beneficiary of Strand 3 of OYOMESI agenda.
The Vice Principal of the secondary school, Mr S. O. Binuyo gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the teachers and the schools, while the Head Teacher of the primary school, Mrs Abigail M. Esan gave the closing remarks.
