PRESS RELEASE: OYO STATE GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES THE PRIME-OYO INITIATIVE

PRIME-OYO is a leadership and mentoring initiative under the Office of the Governor led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Oyo State, under the OYO Model Education System Interventions (OYOMESI) scheme  of the OYO State Government,  targeted at empowering the youths of OYO State through educational, psycho-social  and life skills towards making them competent, ‘civil citizens who are fit to live, work and interact globally. 

OYOMESI is on a mission of Raising Competent Civil Citizens through: Character Education (Prime –OYO), Localised Education Contents (WAEC Boot Camps, Digital Literacy, Beginners Educational Model,  Q&A Framework) & Improving Teacher Competences/motivation (New Teachers Induction Scheme, Continuing Professional Development & Incentive Schemes)

It is also in line with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal Four (SDG-4): Quality Education. An important aspect is ensuring inclusive and quality education for all and promoting lifelong learning. Obtaining a quality education is the foundation to improving people’s lives and sustainable development. As a character education initiative, PRIME-OYO is passionate about employing alternative educational systems of mentoring,out-of-school skill acquisition, leadership & enterpreneurial skills development amongst others, all with the aim of  raising competent, civil, citizens in OYO State, re-positioning the state to take her place as the ‘Pacesetter’ for educational advancement, innovation as well as becoming a hub for providing competent workforce for the nation budding local industries

PRIME – OYO is thus hinged on these philosophies:

• Ensuring that all children, both boys and girls, have a positive attitudes to learning and character building.                                                                                            
•  Ensuring that Pupils/students voice are heard in governance through an interactive sessions with His excellency Senator Abiola Ajimobi who is the Grand patron of the Leadership Programme tagged PRIME –OYO.                                                                                  
• Collaborating with the wider community to inspire the youths and spur them to greater heights through Positive Role Modeling and Social Enterprise.
• Increase significantly the number of individuals with relevant skills, including vocational and technical skills, for employment, entrepreneurship and decent jobs.
  

  ·     It is a unique programme which avails equal opportunities and open access to all young people in primary and secondary schools, both citizens and residents of OYO State. The Vision is simple: Raising, competent, civil citizens.  PRIME- OYO is committed to achieving her vision, by employing  individuals from the wider society as mentors and positive role models who are either indigenes, old students, residents or friends of Oyo State.

CORE OBJECTIVES

• To achieve overall human educational, Social, cultural, intellectual and civil development for all Young People in OYO state 
• To empower Youths in OYO state by strengthening their social economic status and providing them with the authentic knowledge and skills needed to live a sustainable and healthy life. 
• Create and opportunity for young people of OYO state to express their creativity and acquire new knowledge and skills to lead a productive life. 
• To develop a responsible Young people who will be able to make the right choices in their lives. 
• To empower the OYO youths to be more productive, focused and more determined to succeed by instilling in them the spirit of volunteering in their local communities. 
• To discover and harness their potentials and innate talents and further improve their confidence and self esteem.
• To transfer basic leadership & lifestyle skills to enable them become economically viable and socially acceptable in global societies
• To collaborate with other international Organizations, Government and Non-Governmental Organizations to implement and achieve the above Objectives.

PRIME-OYO will intervene and target School Aged children, undergraduates (Public/Private) and youths in Oyo State. The following will be the projetcs towards the achievememnt PRIME-OYO goal:

• Character Education: Leadership/ lifestyle/ Entrepreneurial training
• Governors Question Time.
• Digital Literacy,  standard Literacy and effective communication skills
• Career development /Mentorship Programme
• Vocational training and empowerment.
